Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance
National site. Free literature available. Toll free phone number for information about mood disorders. Bookstore with discounts for donors. The alliance has created an online community, FacingUs.org, that provides a safe haven for those living with mood disorders and offers inspiration and encouragement to anyone seeking personal wellness.

 MentalHealthCares
New Jersey MentalHealthCares is New Jersey’s mental health information and referral service. Their staff of mental health professionals use their experience and understanding of the mental health system to connect you to the information and services you need. Call 1-866-202-HELP (4357).

New Jersey Self-Help Group Clearinghouse
The Clearinghouse lists over 6,750 support groups in their database. There are support groups for mental health, and also groups for other conditions, disabilities and situations. To find a support group in your area that meets your needs, call them at 1-800-367-6274 (outside NJ: 1-973-989-1122). You can also search for a mental health support group online. The Clearinghouse will assist anyone wanting to start a group.

Depression Central
Clearinghouse for information on all types of depressive disorders. Site is maintained by Dr. Ivan Goldberg, psychopharmacologist and medical adviser to the Mood Disorders Support Group of New York.

Social Security and Disability Resource Center
The center is a Social Security and Disability resource website that helps individuals and their families understand their rights, what they are entitled to, and how to qualify for benefits. The site is based on the author's own work experience as a former disability-medicaid caseworker, and also as a former disability examiner for the social security administration. Pages of interest to persons with mood disorders include qualifying if you have depression or bipolar disorder. The author also presents capsule descriptions of depression and bipolar disorder.

SpeakYourMindNJ.org
The New Jersey Psychological Association has orgainized this campaign to fight insurance company practices that make it more difficult to obtain treatment, and reimbursement, for mental health services than for other physical illensses, and that require therapists to disclose confidential information. The campaign includes a lawsuit against state officials and insurance companies. They are collecting the experiences of patients/clients to support their case. If you have a complaint regarding such practices, you may report it to their registry.

SAVE stands for Suicide Awareness Voices of Education. Look here for suicide prevention information and statistics on suicide in the US.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide. The AFSP funds suicide prevention research, programs for survivors of suicide loss and educational programs largely through their Out of the Darkness Community Walks. Their local chapter, AFSP-New Jersey, runs suicide survivor support groups, holds annual survivor conferences, and educational conferences for mental health professionals, clergy, police, funeral directors and the media. On November 6, 2008, the AFSP and the Suicide Prevention Action Network USA, which has a complementary mission, announced that the two organizations will merge.

Internet Mental Health
Designed and sponsored by Canadian psychiatrist Dr. Philip Long, this site contains information on diagnosis and medications. Also a wide variety of articles, news, recovery stories and newsletters from professional and other sources. Links, too.
